The 1,350 MW CPV Basin Ranch Energy Center in Ward County will provide dependable power generation, create hundreds of jobs in West Texas, and be capable of powering the equivalent of 850,000 homes using locally sourced natural gas, and freeing much-needed pipeline capacity.
CPV Basin Ranch is being developed with the option to include carbon capture capabilities. The innovative system would capture ~95% of the emitted carbon dioxide, which could be used for enhanced oil recovery in the Permian Basin.
In August of 2024, the Public Utility Commission of Texas advanced CPV Basin Ranch to a due diligence review of CPV’s application for a low-interest loan in the inaugural Texas Energy Fund (TEF) program. In the following month, Ward County commissioners approved a partial 10-year tax abatement for the project.

A combined-cycle electric generator like CPV Basin Ranch is a highly efficient assembly of combustion turbines that drive electric generators where the hot exhaust from the combustion turbines is used to generate additional electricity via a steam turbine. The power that generators like this one produce typically displaces power produced by older, less efficient power plants, and helps improve our environment.
CPV Basin Ranch is a 1,350 MW facility that would be capable of powering the equivalent of 850,000 West Texas homes using locally sourced natural gas.
CPV Basin will create 5,200 direct, indirect, and induced jobs during construction, paying over $1.8 billion in wages and benefits. Once operational, the site will employ more than 90 direct and indirect jobs, paying over $1.3 billion in wages and benefits. For the local taxing districts, CPV Basin Ranch generations $410 million in net benefits. There will also be upgrades to the local infrastructure during construction that will help encourage other industrial projects.
