(“CPV”), with headquarters in Silver Spring, MD, and offices in Braintree, MA and Sugar Land, TX, is uniquely positioned to leverage global technology and financial partnerships to help modernize America’s power generation. We are driven to improve our energy infrastructure by developing and operating power generation facilities using cutting-edge, domestically available natural gas and renewable power technology. CPV is owned by OPC Energy, the first privately held electric company in Israel.
CPV is looking for an onsite SCADA Systems Engineer to work within the CPV Information Technology group located in the Silver Spring, MD office. The SCADA Systems Engineer is a skilled, hands-on technical professional responsible for maintaining, upgrading, and administering Operational Technology (OT) systems, alongside the foundational IT infrastructure that supports them.
The successful candidate will be directly responsible for the daily administration and ongoing development of the OSII Monarch SCADA platform, including extensive data mapping, real-time troubleshooting, and custom display creation. Additionally, this position requires a deep technical background in traditional systems engineering, server lifecycle management, and core networking. You will be heavily involved in provisioning virtual machines (VMs), procuring physical server hardware, managing user access control via Active Directory (AD), and engineering secure data integrations. This individual operates with high technical responsibility and autonomy, ensuring the reliability, security, and continuous optimization of the real-time generation data environments.
Primary Responsibilities:
- SCADA Platform Development & Administration: Lead the daily administration, configuration, database modeling, and continuous development of the OSII Monarch SCADA architecture, including telemetry data mapping, real-time troubleshooting, and custom operational display creation.
- Protocol & Telemetry Management: Configure, maintain, and support SCADA communication protocols and data exchanges interfacing with plant remote devices (RTUs/PLCs) and external control centers, with heavy emphasis on DNP3 and ICCP protocols.
- Advanced SCADA Calculations: Design, develop, deploy, and maintain advanced system telemetry logic and calculations within the SCADA environments utilizing custom C/C++ scripts and calculations frameworks.
- Systems Administration & Infrastructure: Directly manage the lifecycle of physical and virtual servers, including provisioning resources for VMs, procuring server hardware, managing capacity planning, and performing routine hardware upgrades.
- Identity & Access Control: Act as the administrator for Active Directory (AD) and identity management systems across the IT/OT environments, performing regular access reviews and ensuring credential security.
- Automation & Innovation: Leverage programming languages to automate repetitive system tasks, optimize system health monitoring, and support future roadmaps for integrating intelligent automation and AI tools into current workflows.
- Support CPV and CPV assets in NERC generator best practices, and NERC cyber security.
- Communicate effectively with internal groups and external interfaces, as necessary.
- Produce deliverables with deadlines and ensure various projects’ completion successfully.
- Develop and utilize documented procedures and processes to achieve system reliability and efficiency.
- Perform 24×7 on-call duties to support all EMS/SCADA related issues, as needed.
Requirements:
- Systems & Infrastructure Architecture: Comprehensive knowledge of virtualization tech stacks, enterprise server hardware deployment, and centralized identity management/directory structures.
- Industrial Automation & Telemetry Frameworks: Proficient understanding of real-time control system database configurations, data historian modeling, and industrial communication architecture.
- Data Integration & Software Integrations: Strong conceptual and practical logic regarding data pipeline development, software-to-software integrations, and structured query languages.
- Network & Cybersecurity Engineering: Thorough grasp of network topology, layer-3 routing, edge security/firewall logic, and securing interconnected corporate and industrial control network segments.
- Technical Self-Direction: Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose root-cause system errors, establish engineering priorities, and execute technical solutions with minimal supervision.
- Dependable, reliable, and predictable attendance is required.
- Exhibit a professional demeanor that aligns with our core values.
- Must pass a pre-employment background and financial credit check.
Experience:
- 7+ years of experience focused on IT systems engineering, Microsoft Windows Server administration, Azure Hybrid Cloud deployment, and robust enterprise systems integration via APIs
- 1+ years of direct, hands-on experience working within industrial OT system environments, including exposure to SCADA architecture, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), or plant instrumentation and controls is a plus
- Practical experience maintaining system backups, addressing critical vulnerabilities, and aligning industrial control environments with NERC CIP cyber security standards.
Compensation: The base annual salary range for this position is $110,000 – $130,000 in the Company’s good faith estimate. The actual base salary for this position will be contingent upon individual experience, role responsibilities, and office location.
