About CPV Keenan II Wind Farm
With geographical features particularly well-suited to producing wind, Woodward is a natural place for wind farm installations. CPV Renewable Energy Company began construction in April on the 152 megawatt Keenan II wind farm 12 miles southwest of Woodward, Oklahoma. The project is the second phase of a multi-phased wind generation project with a total build-out potential exceeding 400 megawatts. CPV sold the 101 MW Phase I of the project to OG&E in 2009. The wind farm, OU Spirit, is currently in operation and provides its total energy output to the University of Oklahoma.
The Keenan II wind farm went into commercial operation in December 2010. The wind farm features 66, Siemens 2.3MW turbines. Keenan II generates enough electricity to power approximately 45,000 average Oklahoma homes and avoids around 500,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year, the equivalent of taking approximately 90,000 cars off the road for a year. The project has a 20-year power purchase agreement with Oklahoma Gas & Electric Company.
