Project Overview

CPV Three River Energy Center is a 1,250-megawatt natural gas-fueled combined-cycle electric generation facility located in Goose Lake Township, Grundy County, Illinois. CPV Three Rivers began operations in August 2023 and safely meets the demand for energy in Illinois using combine-cycle technology and the latest “H” class gas turbine, which operate 30-40% more efficiently compared to older baseload electric generation technologies.

CPV Three Rivers uses clean-burning natural gas and state-of-the-art technology, including two combustion turbines (CT), two heat recovery steam generators (HRSG), and two steam turbines (ST) to maximize efficiency. It is one of the world’s most efficient and least polluting power plants of its type, helping to support the US green energy transition.
