CPV is looking for an Analyst to join its Energy Management team. This position is located in our Silver Spring, MD office. The Analyst will work with project team members to perform various front and mid-office duties including but not limited to daily, weekly and ad hoc analysis, derivative valuation, fundamental analysis, mark-to-market, credit analysis, trade verification, settlement and invoice reconciliation to assist energy marketing and trading in management of gas, coal, oil, and wind generation facilities throughout North America.


  • Provide quantitative and qualitative analysis for power, fuel, and capacity trading
  •  Forecasting and back-casting energy margins
  • Fundamental analysis of markets
  • Maintain and develop tools to help support the traders as well as improve one’s own efficiency and accuracy
  • Provide focal point for middle-office functions
  • Monitor credit risk with various counterparties
  • Prepare and submit asset reports for various regulatory agencies (NERC/FERC)
  • Perform ad hoc analysis to support development activities


Bachelor’s or higher degree in Engineering, Business, Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, or other related field

  • One to two years’ experience with electricity generation or financial trading/modeling
  • An understanding of over-the-counter and organized electricity and capacity markets
  • Experience valuing derivatives as well as managing their risk
  • Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills with a strong self-starter attitude; eager to learn and grow their position and role in the team
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and be able to manage several tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment with a key towards preparing accurate data and reports
  • Strong oral and written English skills
  • Strong spreadsheet skills; familiarity with Microsoft Access
  • Ability to program in VBA and SQL
  • Must pass a background check, with credit report
