CPV is looking for an Energy Generation Trader to join its Energy Management team. This position is located in Silver Spring, MD and will direct, manage, monitor and coordinate the energy marketing and trading of assets under management in accordance with overall strategic goals and risk policies. The primary responsibilities encompass initiating and executing a value accretive commercial marketing strategy for generation portfolios including gas-fired combined cycle and peaker facilities, oil-fired peaking facilities, coal facilities, etc. including energy off-take agreements and hedges associated with the generation portfolios.


Responsibilities

  •  Direct and oversee the third-party energy management company to bid, dispatch, schedule and trade the energy, ancillary services and capacity from generation units to meet the strategic goals of the owner
  • Manage contractual relationship with long term off-take agreements including day to day coordination, settlement and payment processes
  • Originate or assist in the origination of long term off-take agreements additional with load serving entities
  • Obtain and monitor information pertaining to real time status of generators and make real-time decisions with regards to operation of generation units
  • Develop and implement short-term and long-term hedging strategy
  • Initiate, negotiate, execute, amend, and/or resolve potential contract disputes for commodity contracts, hedges, gas transportation agreements and tariffs associated with generation assets
  • Coordinate plant outage schedules with third party energy management company, ISO, asset manager and plant personnel
  • Provide information and support to required individuals for energy position and risk management, outage reporting, contract negotiations or disputes, and business strategy
  • Responsible for proper settlement with third party energy management company, hedge provider(s), and gas transportation companies
  • Work with plant personnel and third-party energy management company to ensure appropriate and best practice communication procedures
  • Work with plant personnel to understand limitations related to capacity and ensure maximization of the physical assets
  • Work with compliance personnel and third-party energy management company to ensure third-party contract and governmental/regulatory compliance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Engineering, Business, Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, or other related field
  • Five or more years' experience with electricity generation or wholesale marketing
  • A strong understanding of the principles of Independent System Operators (PJM, NYISO, ISO-NE, ERCOT, MISO).
  • Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills with a strong self-starter attitude eager to learn and grow their position and role in the team
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and be able to manage several tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment with a key towards accurate and economic execution
  • Strong oral and written English skills
  • Strong spreadsheet skills
  • Must pass a pre-employment background and credit check
